This Winchester 61 gun was totally pitted when it arrived at Acosta Gunworks. The receiver was pitted on both sides and had to be draw-filed extensively.
The barrel was also pitted, especially at the muzzle end of the weapon, from being stored in a canvas zippered case. This gun had not been fired for at least 20 years and had been put away without being cleaned at that time.
All metal work was finished in a hot dip blue finish.
The buttstock had numerous cracks and dings throughout, as did the forearm. These were repaired and then the stock was refinished in an oil finish.
